Collective Worship
Rooted in Faith, United in Prayer
At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, prayer and worship are central to daily life. We believe that collective worship brings our school community together in the presence of God, helping us to grow in faith, reflect on Gospel values, and celebrate the richness of our Catholic identity.
Our mission “In the Light of Jesus, we Learn to Shine” is lived out through meaningful opportunities for prayer, reflection, and liturgy that involve pupils, staff, and families alike.
Daily Worship and Prayer
Worship is an integral part of each school day. Children take part in a variety of prayer and liturgical experiences, including:
- Whole school worship
- Year group and class liturgies
- Pupil-led prayer sessions
- Celebrations of Holy Mass throughout the liturgical year
- Reflection during key seasons such as Advent and Lent
These moments of prayer help children to develop a personal relationship with God and a deeper understanding of their faith.
Pupil Involvement
Children are encouraged to take an active role in planning and leading worship. Our Faith Ambassadors and class groups regularly prepare and deliver liturgies, choosing scripture, prayers, and music that reflect the liturgical calendar and school values.
This involvement nurtures confidence, spiritual awareness, and a sense of responsibility for the faith life of the school.
A Community of Faith
We work closely with our parish and families to ensure that worship is a shared experience. Parents are warmly invited to join us for Masses, assemblies, and special liturgical celebrations throughout the year.
Our worship is inclusive, respectful, and rooted in Catholic tradition, while also recognising and valuing the diverse backgrounds of all members of our school community.
Prayer in Everyday Life
Prayer is woven into the rhythm of the school day - from morning greetings and grace before meals to end-of-day reflections. Children are taught a variety of traditional and spontaneous prayers and are encouraged to pray for others, especially during times of need.
As highlighted in our recent Catholic Schools Inspection, pupils at St Joseph’s demonstrate a deep understanding of prayer and can confidently explain how it shapes their actions and relationships.
